Few things are worse than finding the “X” (where the ducks want to be) but watching them flare because they see you and your friends patiently waiting for them. Likewise, it’s what we live for as duck hunters when we have groups of mallards, pintail, specks or snows falling from the heavens into our spread because they have no idea we’ve set the perfect trap. Portable Duck Blinds have come a long way in the last decade, and they can truly help make your hunt one to remember.

Our huntbums team has tested over two dozen portable duck blinds (both layout and panel blinds) and we’re going to go over some of our favorites based on price, features, durability and ease of use. Remember, if you want to hunt better, start by hiding better.

Portable duck blinds – Panel Blind Edition

  1. Tanglefree Panel Blind: The Tanglefree Panel Blind is a solid option that’s built to last, seriously – it’s built like a tank. While it’s a bit cumbersome, it’s our favorite option when it comes to panel blinds. The Flight Series Panel Blind is made with an aluminum frame and water-resistant fabric shell that can withstand all the weather conditions that duck season can throw at you, especially if you pick up their frame supports and cross sections. The blind is easy to set up and take down, but it can be a bit of a pain to set up initially. We recommend having a friend help as you pull the fabric and fasten them to the frames.

  • Aluminum frame
  • Adjustable width to close gap when you need extra concealment
  • Window viewing ports on all panels
  • Conceals up to 4 hunters per set of panels

  1. Tanglefree 360 Blind: The Tanglefree 360 Blind is a great choice for solo hunters who want maximum coverage. The blind provides full 360-degree coverage, and it also has a dog door built into it. The blind, like its panel blind cousin, is also easy to set up and take down. You’d be surprised with how much space you can make in this solo blind. If you need a smaller footprint, it’s easy to just keep a panel or more folded. We’ve used this blind in both fresh water and brackish water – and it’s held up nicely throughout two entire seasons so far. Definitely a great blind if you’re looking for total concealment, or you’re a solo hunter who is looking for options.

Specifications:

  • Aluminum frame
  • 360 degrees of concealment
  • Built in dog door
  • Conceals 1 hunter and 1 dog comfortably

  • Size (Each panel): 13″-20″ x 44″ Tall
  • Size (Top diameter when set up): 36″
  • Size (Bottom diameter when set up): 60″
  • Weight: 16.9 lbs

  1. Avery Finisher Panel Blind: The Avery Finisher Panel Blind is a close second to the tanglefree panel blinds that we love so much. The Avery Finisher actually has a couple cool features that we liked, such as a removal mesh window and also the top panels are adjustable. You can actually tilt the top of the panels towards you which can help eliminate the black hole affect that you get sometimes while hunting in a blind. The added features are awesome, but the added weight is not. The reason why this blind comes in at number 3 is just because of the added weight. If you don’t mind about some extra pounds, you might want to take a look at this blind option.

Specifications:

  • Adjustable top with lightweight and durable steel frame
  • Large window ports on each panel
  • Adjustable width
  • Hides up to 4 hunters comfortably
  • Folded dimension: 4’L x 3’w x 6″H
  • Single Panel dimension: 3’W x 4’H
  • SET-UP dimension: 8.5’W x 4’H
  • Net Weight: 31.5lbs

  1. MoMarsh Versa Hunting Blind: The MoMarsh Versa Hunting Blind is an awesome blind, seriously, it’s awesome. The Versa blind is unique in that it is more suitable for land OR water. Yes, you can use many of these panel blinds in water, but the Versa blind has adjustable legs in which you can actually raise the panels to hunt them above the water. The Versa blind has the uniqueness of being customizable to nearly any hunting type or area. The reason why it comes in at a cool number 4, is simply because of price and weight. We also thought the panels had a bit larger gap between them than the other panel blinds, but when you attach your cover – it helps address that issue.

I’d choose the MOmarsh Versa blind 10 out of 10 times if the price was a bit more comparable to the other blinds on the market even if they don’t get the weight down to something more manageable. This blind comes down to what you value the most.

Specifications:

  • Can be used on ground or in water
  • Legs and camo panels extend up to 22”
  • Can be configured to any angle
  • Dura-Mesh top for visibility
  • GORE™ OPTIFADE™ Waterfowl Marsh Camo
  • Blind height adjusts from 45″ to 67″
  • Blind panels width up to 114″
  • Total Weight: 39.5 Lbs.

  1. Rig Em Right Panel Blind: The Rig Em Right Panel Blind is a good panel blind (emphasis on good). It’s light, it’s durable and it comes with a stabilizing cross beam. The ONLY reason this blind is ranked in 5th is because it’s the same price as the others that are comparable, but it doesnt have quite as many features you can add onto and the big one – having just two stubble straps on the panels: stinks. The Rig Em Right Panel Blind is a good blind, we just wish it had a few more options.

Specifications:

  • Crossbar for stability
  • Weight bags
  • Pockets for gear inside
  • Dimensions: Set up: 117″ x 36″ x 52″
  • Folded: 39″ x 5″ x 52″
  • Weight: 20lbs

Portable Duck Blinds – Layout Blind Edition

  1. Alps Outdoorz Legend Layout Blind: The Alps Outdoorz Legend Layout Blind is the Cadillac of layout blinds in our opinion. The space it provides while still having a smaller footprint is what dreams are made of – we loved it. Did I mention that it features a zero gravity chair in it? Yes. We loved everything about this blind and would recommend it to all of our hunting buddies. If my wife was coming to hunt with me, I’d surely put her in this layout blind – that’s how awesome it was.

  • Seat Height off ground: 5”

  1. Tanglefree Flight Series Layout Blind: The Tanglefree Flight Series Layout Blind is super lightweight and is easily packable. It’s got a lot of room for a layout blind and has backpack straps built in – which makes it a great choice for portability. We were super impressed by the quality of this blind and after a season of use, it still looks brand new.

  • Size 84” x 37” x 17”
  • Weight: 19lbs.

  1. Northern Flight Quick Series Renegade Layout Blind: The Northern Flight Quick Series Renegade Layout Blind may not have all the bells and whistles that other high end layout’s have, but it is definitely the easiest layout blind to set up and tear down that we’ve used. If you’re tired of those pesky pins, give this layout blind a try as it uses a quick connect point system that is a breeze to set up and just a simple pull of a tab it all releases.

  1. Rig Em Right Xtreme Ghillie Layout Blind: The Rig Em Right Xtreme Ghillie Layout Blind boasts itself as – the most effective concealment system ever designed. Our team here at Hunt Bums was a bit puzzled on what we’d call this set up, but after lots of talking we decided that this is a great – lightweight and minimalist setup. Definitely a no-frills option here, but sometimes – that’s just what we want and need.

  • Length: 83″
  • Interior width: 30″
  • Headrest height: 15″
  • Interior width at head rest: 30″

  1. Tanglefree Ground Ghost Layout Blind: The Tanglefree Ground Ghost Layout Blind is sort of an awkward but yet amazing love-child between a layout blind and a decoy bag. Yes, we didn’t know how to explain it – this layout blind actually doubles as a decoy bag. It’s a pretty basic layout blind, but when you consider it as both a layout and a decoy bag – it immediately becomes an option for the portable duck blind category. Grab your decoys and blind bag, throw them inside your layout and head off with your mobile duck blind.

Specifications:

  • 80” x 25” x 15”
  • Weight: 8lbs.
  • Folds up into a backpack, which holds up to two dozen decoys.
  • Light weight, corrosion resistant, aluminum frame.
  • Low profile design.
