Casey Hartwell
Founder & Editor-in-Chief · California
Casey built Hunt Bums out of a simple belief: hunting should be shared, taught, and kept alive for the next generation. What started as one hunter's obsession with the Pacific Flyway has grown into a community built on real stories, honest perspectives, and a commitment to keeping the tradition strong.
The vision behind Hunt Bums is clear. Lower the barrier of entry, welcome more people into the lifestyle, and ensure that the lessons, culture, and legacy remain intact. Because hunting isn't just about filling a strap or punching a tag. It's about passing down tradition.
Outside the blind, Casey runs Zephyr Haus, a brand and marketing strategy consultancy helping outdoor, lifestyle, and action sports brands define their identity and build strategies that move people. A diehard California waterfowler at heart, Casey lives for foggy mornings, spinning wings, and the rush of birds dropping into the decoys.

Dru Yoder
Partner/Senior Writer · Pennsylvania
A lifelong outdoorsman with a deep appreciation for adventure and the traditions that come with it, Dru spent more than a decade in California before returning to his home state of Pennsylvania in 2024 to reconnect with the forests, fields, and waterways that first sparked his love for the outdoors.
In the fall, you'll find him chasing whitetails through Pennsylvania hardwoods, while winter brings long mornings in the blind calling late-season waterfowl. When hunting seasons wind down, Dru shifts his focus to the water, spending time on the legendary Susquehanna River pursuing smallmouth bass and enjoying the quieter side of the outdoors.
Whether he's scouting new ground, watching a sunrise from a tree stand, or casting along a rocky riverbank, Dru believes the best days start early and end with a good story. Through his writing with Hunt Bums, he shares the experiences, lessons, and adventures that come from spending as much time outdoors as possible.
Jason Allen

Jason isn't just a writer for Hunt Bums. He's also a safety trainer for the largest roofing distributor in the country and the owner/operator of Ackley Outdoors. Born and raised in Idaho, he has plenty of opportunities to get out in the wild to enjoy hunting and fishing. His passion is hunting waterfowl, but he is no stranger to chasing deer, elk, turkey, or the occasional predator.
Matt Heden

Matt is a Bay Area native who spends his weekdays in the world of Search Engine Optimization and his weekends hunting and fishing. Born and raised in California among a family who didn't hunt or fish, he's had to learn things on his own or through the help and guidance of a select few. Matt has a passion to see young and first-time hunters begin and grow in becoming true outdoorsmen.
Dejour Boyd
Field Reporter · California
Dejour might be one of the newer hunters on the scene, but he's quickly made his mark since being introduced to the sport in 2019. His passion for the outdoors has only grown, and today Dejour is a dedicated and versatile hunter. During waterfowl season, you'll often find him free-roaming the rugged terrain of Grizzly Island.
A proud blue-collar worker in the Bay Area's refinery industry, Dejour spends his time off eagerly planning his next hunting adventure.
