Springfield Hellcat TALON Grips Review
A $25 stick-on grip that installs in ten minutes, tightened 15-yard groups from 3 inches to 2, and made the carry gun feel locked in.
Tested on a Hellcat · PRO Texture · Range and Daily Carry
The Short Answer
Yes, TALON Grips are worth it on a Springfield Hellcat. For under $30 you get pre-cut panels that go on in ten minutes, come off clean, and add enough traction that my groups tightened by a full inch at 15 yards. Buy the PRO texture if the gun rides against your skin.

It's hard to find a cheaper upgrade that changes how a carry gun shoots this much. The only real knocks are that a set wears out and you can't reuse one once it's off.

Start HereWhy Grip Is Everything in EDC
Rain, frigid temperatures, slick hands and a spiking heart rate. You don't get a do-over in a self-defense situation. When control matters most, you need to rely on your training and, most importantly, your equipment.
What I thought would be a small tweak turned into one of the most noticeable improvements I've made to my Springfield Hellcat everyday carry (EDC).
There's something about gear that just works. Out in the wilds of the woods or the concrete jungle, the little details matter. And when it comes to handguns, grip is everything.
I recently installed TALON Grips on my Springfield Hellcat, and to be honest, I didn't expect such a small upgrade to make such a noticeable difference. But after a weekend on the range and a few days carrying it, I can tell you it's one of the easiest, most effective changes you can make to your EDC pistol.
InstallHow to Install TALON Grips on a Hellcat
No gunsmithing, no headache. TALON Grips come pre-cut for the Hellcat, so the whole job is four steps and takes less than ten minutes.
- Clean the frame. Wipe it down with the included alcohol pad so there's no oil under the adhesive.
- Line up the grip panels. They're cut to fit like a glove.
- Press everything into place. Work from the center out so the panel conforms to the frame.
- Hit it with a little heat. A hair dryer or heat gun locks the adhesive down tight. Press it again while it's warm.
Before You Heat It
The adhesive is pressure and heat activated, so you can still lift and reposition a panel until you warm it. Once it's heated and set, it's staying put. A grip you peel off can't be reinstalled.
In less than ten minutes, my Hellcat went from pretty good to rock solid. It's one of those upgrades you can knock out in the garage before heading to the range.
The RangeDo TALON Grips Actually Improve Control?
Yes, and it showed up on paper. After installing the grips, my 15-yard groups tightened from about 3 inches to about 2 inches and my split times dropped by about half a second.
| Measure | Stock Hellcat | With TALON Grips | Change |
|---|---|---|---|
| 15-yard groups | About 3 in | About 2 in | 1 in tighter |
| Split times | Baseline | About 0.5 sec faster | Faster follow-ups |
| Carry comfort | Factory texture | PRO texture, all-day comfortable | No hot spots |

At first glance, TALON Grips might look like just another stick-on accessory. But once you've fired a few mags with them installed, the difference is immediate. With extra traction, follow-up shots feel snappier and more controlled, and the gun comes back to the same spot in your hand every time.
How much more grip do they add?
The best independent number comes from ConcealedCarry.com. They clamped a force gauge to a Glock 27 and measured how hard it had to pull before the clamp slipped off, running 15 pulls per surface and averaging the middle 13.
| Grip surface | Force before slip | Versus factory | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Factory polymer | About 7 lb | Baseline | Nothing in particular |
| TALON Rubber | About 14 lb | 2x | Concealed carry |
| TALON Granulate | About 21 lb | 3x | Competition, duty, open carry |

That's double the grip with Rubber and triple with Granulate, which is a massive gain when it's hot, cold, or wet. TALON was started in 2009 by a law enforcement officer and competitive shooter, and outlets like Jerking the Trigger and The Truth About Guns have reviewed them over the years.
For me, the results were clear: faster returns to target, tighter groups, and the confidence that my Hellcat won't slip, no matter the conditions.
Pick OneWhich TALON Texture Is Best for Concealed Carry?
For a gun that rides against your skin, pick PRO or Rubber. I went with PRO, which offers grit without feeling like sandpaper. Rubber is the smoothest option and, per TALON, about 80% of what they sell. Granulate grips hardest but can scratch holsters and wear on clothing.
| Texture | Feel | Best for | Watch for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rubber-Black | Soft, tacky, non-abrasive | Concealed carry, all-day comfort | Less bite with wet or gloved hands |
| Rubber-Moss | Same rubber in Flat Dark Earth | Tan and FDE guns | Same as Rubber-Black |
| PRO | Gritty without the sandpaper feel | Carry guns that also see range time | A touch more abrasive than Rubber |
| Granulate-Black | Aggressive, like skateboard tape | Competition, duty, open carry | Can scratch holsters and wear on clothes |

LongevityHow Long Do TALON Grips Last?
TALON Grips has been around since 2009, and shooters consistently report one to three years of solid use before needing a replacement. Heavy duty use wears them faster.
From the Field
A friend of mine on a CERT team told me they swap theirs out yearly because of the high volume of duty use.
| Detail | What to expect |
|---|---|
| Typical life | One to three years of carry and range use |
| Heavy duty use | About a year |
| Guarantee | TALON guarantees its grips will last 90 days |
| Removal | Peels off clean. Leftover adhesive wipes off with rubbing alcohol |
| Reusable | No. Once it's off, plan on a new set |
| Made in | USA. Midwest materials, cut and shipped from Steamboat Springs, Colorado |
For less than the cost of a box of premium ammo, you get an upgrade that lasts, from a company that backs it up.
Real WorldWhy It Matters in the Field
Here's where it really clicked for me. As hunters, outdoorsmen, and EDC carriers, we live in conditions that don't always play nice: cold mornings in the blind, pouring rain on the river, slick hands after dragging a deer.
The last thing you want is to fumble a pistol.
I've been in the woods when that feeling hits. The hair on your neck stands up, your heart rate spikes, and you realize you're being watched. Sometimes you see the eyes staring back, sometimes you don't. Either way, in those moments, gear confidence matters.
My Hellcat already checked a lot of boxes for concealed carry. But adding TALON Grips gave me another level of trust in my equipment, something you only appreciate when you rely on your sidearm in the real world.

Quick AnswersTALON Grips for Hellcat FAQ
Yes. TALON makes a separate pre-cut grip for the Hellcat Pro, sold in the same four textures and at the same $24.99 to $29.99 price as the standard Hellcat grip. Order the one that matches your frame.
The PRO texture is ideal for most carriers. It's gritty enough for control but smooth enough for daily EDC against your skin. Rubber is the most comfortable option. Granulate grips hardest but can scratch holsters and wear on clothing, so it's better for competition or open carry.
No. They can be removed cleanly without damaging your firearm. Any leftover adhesive wipes off with rubbing alcohol and a soft cloth. A grip can't be reinstalled once it's removed, so you'll need a new set if you take them off.
Most users report one to three years of use, depending on conditions and carry frequency. High-volume duty users often replace them every year. TALON guarantees its grips will last 90 days.
Clean the frame with the included alcohol pad, line up the pre-cut panels, press them into place, then warm them with a hair dryer or heat gun so the adhesive sets and press again. The whole job takes under ten minutes and needs no gunsmithing.
$24.99 to $29.99 on talongungrips.com, depending on texture. Matching slide grips run $12.49 and extended magazine grips run $2.99 to $3.49.
Yes. In a ConcealedCarry.com clamp-pull test, a factory polymer frame slipped at about 7 pounds of force, TALON Rubber at about 14 pounds, and TALON Granulate at about 21 pounds. On the Hellcat, Dru's 15-yard groups went from about 3 inches to about 2 inches and his split times dropped by about half a second.
For most holsters, yes. TALON grips are less than 0.5 mm thick, so they don't change how the gun fits. Granulate is abrasive enough to scratch a holster's finish over time, which is one more reason to pick PRO or Rubber for a carry gun.
In the USA. TALON ships its raw materials in from the Midwest, then designs, cuts, and ships every grip from its headquarters in Steamboat Springs, Colorado.

Having been an avid firearms enthusiasts for the past 40 years. I used to use the standard slip-on rubber grip. I was turned on to t Talon grips about 10 years ago, I now have talon grips on all my firearms. I recently installed on my AR 15 unbelievable, the grip level on the handle and front of the mag well is unbelievable guaranteed not to slip. Thank you Talon grips for the product you produce years ago. I also have these on my fnx-9s, have been on there for 4 years for my house gun,I change about every 2 years on my field guns. years on my field
Love this. Forty years on the range and a decade with Talon says a lot. The old slip-on rubber does its job until it doesn’t, and sounds like Talon fixed that for you on the AR. That mag well and front grip coverage really are a game changer with sticky hands.
I run them on every pistol I own now and I will never go back to anything else.
