Buying hunting gear in person is a less frequent occurrence than it was just 10 years ago, in the traditional sense of brick-and-mortar stores at least. The vast majority of retail leaders in the hunting and outdoors industry have transitioned to streamlined online eCommerce offerings that give you far more control over what’s available with far better deals and discounts. Well known and trusted retailers like Cabela’s, Sportsman’s Warehouse, Rogers Sporting Goods, and Scheels put every piece of hunting gear that you could ever want right at your fingertips, all shipped to your front door without the need to wait at a checkout line or even chat with a salesperson. No longer are you purely limited to the brands that your local shop carries, or by what happens to be in stock.

Online shopping has fast become the preferred way to shop for hunting gear, and the Hunt Bums team has compiled a list of retailers that warrant checking out, not just for their great product offerings, but also for their fantastic deals.

Camofire

Camofire is a hunting gear store that brings you a fresh new lineup of deals and flash sales every day, with most items being offered between 40% – 70% off their retail prices. Yes, there are some killer deals on Camofire, but you’ll need to act quickly as there are often limited quantities offered. Offering both a mobile application and standard eCommerce storefront, Camofire excels in the sense of urgency category, providing timer countdowns and inventory quantities remaining updates. The vast majority of their deals do come from well-known and reputable brands, though they do offer deals on their house brands as well. Deals also vary by day (trail camera Tuesday, waterfowl Wednesday, etc.) so that’ll keep you coming back and checking the lineup frequently. Bottom line, if you’re a fan of scoring hunting gear at huge discounts Camofire is going to be right up your alley.

Bass Pro Shops

This privately held behemoth retailer of the hunting and outdoor industry shook things up when they acquired Cabela’s in 2017. The merging of the two brands encountered a few hiccups, but things seemed to have calmed down and straightened themselves out as the years have gone on. With strong ties to the hunting community, made even stronger with the Cabela’s tie-in, chances are that you’ve at least encountered an advertisement or an online offer from Bass Pro Shops. When it comes to a catalog of hunting gear, apparel, and merchandise in general, you’d be hard pressed to find a retailer that competes based on scale and quantity alone. They’ve got it all and then some. Boats, UTV’s, ATV’s, clothing lines, cookware, home goods, etc., the list goes on and on. If you’re looking for a deal on anything hunting related, Bass Pro Shops is always worth a look, and their online storefront is easy enough to navigate as well, sharing some very similar characteristics with Cabela’s.

Cabela’s

Probably one of the most iconic brands in the industry, a hunting retailers list wouldn’t be complete without one of the most well-known and trusted outfitters there is. Cabela’s really does offer an incredible array of hunting gear, apparel, firearms, ammunition, and even home goods. The Cabela’s eCommerce storefront is easy to navigate and presents their latest promotions and specials in a very efficient and easy to understand manner. Ever since being acquired by Bass Pro in 2017, you’ll notice similar offers and cross-promotion of brands between both Cabela’s and Bass Pro.

Optics Planet

Like the name says, Optics Planet began as direct-to-consumer eCommerce site specializing in optics for hunters, law enforcement, military, etc. What it’s developed into over the years is something far more, however. Not only are they carrying some of the best names in optics and firearms accessories, but they also offer an extensive catalog of apparel, ammunition, footwear, calls, survival gear, etc. If you’re looking for anything optics related (scopes, binoculars, red dot sights, etc.) your first stop should be Optics Planet but don’t be afraid to stick around and explore everything else they have to offer, there are some seriously good deals on this site.

Sportsman’s Warehouse

Sportsman’s Warehouse is one of those sites that I have a love/hate relationship with. I love that they have such an extensive catalog of hunting-related goods, but I hate the design, functionality, and layout, unfortunately. Regardless, I can live with poor functionality as long as the deals are worthwhile, and the inventory is in stock. If you’re looking for deals on firearms, Sportsman’s Warehouse should for sure be at the top of your list. They have one of the most well stocked firearms inventories of any of the retailers we’ve seen, same for ammo as well. Gear and apparel wise, you’re going to find most of the most well-known brands in the hunting and outdoor industry, along with a few house brands. They often have some incredible deals on waterfowl decoys so keep an eye out for specials and sales.

Scheels

To be fair, Scheels is more of a general sporting goods store vs. a pure-play hunting and outdoors store, but we still had to include it on the list based on how impressive their overall hunting offering is. While the sporting goods and lifestyle aspects of their website are front and center online, once you start diving in and exploring their hunting categories you’re going to be impressed. From archery to tree blinds, they’ve got it all and then some.

Gander Outdoors

Formerly known as Gander Mountain, the organization was acquired by Camping World in 2017 and rebranded as Gander Outdoors. Hunting is still a mainstay of their product offering, thankfully, but they’ve added a few additional categories to coincide with their audience. Deal wise, you’re going to find some fairly good discounts here, especially if you time your purchases right. For example, at the time of writing this blog post, they’re running an up to 45% off sale and the pickings are surprisingly good.

Turner’s Outdoorsman

A California staple, Turner’s Outdoorsman has gone through a bunch of changes over the years, but it’s still a damn fine hunting-oriented store, with a strong emphasis on preserving second amendment rights and overall support for the National Rifle Association. While Turner’s Outdoorsman might be more regional in nature, it’s still worth a look as they offer an impressive selection of firearms and ammunition. Hunting gear wise, Turner’s Outdoorsman doesn’t have the most substantial product catalog that we’ve seen, but it does appear that they highly curate everything they offer, which does eliminate a lot of the paradox of choice you might encounter with the other larger retailers out there. Bottom line, these guys are a must visit when it comes to firearms and ammo, and that they so strongly support organizations like the NRA, Safari Club International, Ducks Unlimited, and California Waterfowl Association makes them stand out even more.

Field Supply

One of the original hunting flash sale sites, Field Supply has expanded its offering over the years to bring more and more in demand products within reach to an ever-evolving hunting clientele. Price wise, Field Supply is hard to beat. Layout and website functionality is basic, at best, but that’s easily offset by the great deals and a plethora of products. If you’re looking for a no-frills online shopping experience, with a solid product offering at amazing prices, Field Supply is worth a look.

Wing Supply

Wing Supply is yet another great site that flies under the radar (no pun intended). While associated with Field Supply, the Wing Supply site is far more wingshooting oriented with an impressive amount of products at crazily discounted prices. Yes, some of the hunting gear does have that bargain bin feel to it, but if you can weed through some of the randomness and get to the good stuff, you’re going to be very pleased with what you find. From name brand hunting apparel and gear to more lifestyle-oriented hunting apparel, and everything in between, Wing Supply offers some of the best pricing along with some of the most diverse product offerings that are constantly being updated. User experience-wise, Wing Supply is a bit clunky but it’s easy enough to navigate their storefront, and they more than make up for any downsides with their prices.

Midway USA

Billed as a store for just about everything for shooting, hunting, and the outdoors, Midway USA has been around since the late 70’s and has made a name for itself in the hunting and outdoor community. They’ve really buckled down and focused on overhauling and improving their eCommerce experience…..and it shows. What was once clunky, is now relatively streamlined, and their categories are easy to navigate. Price wise, they’re in line with Bass Pro and Cabela’s, but they do offer some sales throughout the year. While we don’t have a crazy amount of experience buying from Midway USA, the feedback and recommendations we received were enough to add it to this list.

Rogers Sporting Goods

Do you want to know what our favorite place to shop is? Yep, you guessed it, Rogers Sporting Goods. A staple in the waterfowl industry, Rogers Sporting Goods has built one helluva reputation for themselves as the “go-to” store for deals on ammo, decoys, apparel, and really anything waterfowl hunting related in general. If you’re looking for some of the best deals on cases of ammo for waterfowl season, Rogers Sporting Goods needs to be the first place you look. Hands down, I’ve never found ammo cheaper, especially hard to find or specialty waterfowl loads. Have you seen what people try and charge for 10 gauge loads these days, it’s crazy? Gear and apparel wise, Rogers has come A LONG ways in recent years with their own house brand product offerings. Personally, I swear by their wader pants and most of their hoodies. Not only are they quality made, but they have also incorporated a ton of innovative features based on feedback they receive from the hunting community. To top it all off they have an incredibly easy to navigate website, and they’re crazy active on their social media channels, as well as putting out new product videos and special offers with a good deal of frequency. All in all, Rogers Sporting Goods is for sure a favorite around these parts….now if only we could get ammo shipped to California again.

Sportsman’s Guide

The membership based online retailer (we’ll get to the membership piece later) has built a reputation for offering some of the top brands in the hunting and outdoor industry, but where they really shine is on the insane amount of products they carry, the ease of use and layout of their site, and the competitiveness of their pricing. Do you need a membership to buy from Sportsman’s Guide? No, but it’ll help get you a nice discount and free shipping. Sportsman’s Guide might have one of the best designed eCommerce storefronts for the industry as a whole. Considering the sheer size of their product catalog, they’ve done a tremendous job making it as easy to see what’s available as well as streamlining the buying process and providing incitive where needed. If you want our two cents, get a membership, and start racking up the savings.

Conclusion

With the growth of eCommerce and online buying becoming more mainstream, we’re certain to see the same trends and shifts in the hunting and outdoors industry, and I for one am looking forward to what’s yet to come.
